For the second consecutive year, the exhibition of sculptures created by the artists will be set in the courtyard of the Cathedral of San Cristoforo in Barga, a city of art and a place of great historical importance for the Serchio Valley and which fits well with the spirit of this project. The sculptures will be placed in the garden in front of the Palazzo Pretorio and will remain on display from June 27th until the end of July. The inauguration of the exhibition will start at 6:00 pm and end at 8:00 pm.

HAND AND MACHINE is not just a title, it is a principle that tells the deepest meaning of this event that this year reaches its 11th edition.

Every year a group of artists from every corner of the world meet in Garfagnana to create a unique experience, which combines the most modern digital techniques with the artisanal work of traditional sculpture. Works created digitally through 3D modeling software take on a concrete form, first thanks to robotic milling that, starting from materials extracted on site, creates a rough shape, and then manually finished by the artists themselves during their residency in Garfagnana.

The collaboration between Garfagnana Innovazione, a company based in Gramolazzo, and Digital Stone Project, an American non-profit, makes it possible every year to experiment with new frontiers of contemporary sculpture: a dialogue in which the main actors are, precisely, the hand and the machine.
