Digital Stone Project

Decima Edizione, 2024: PIETRA ETERNA

The Digital Stone Project and Garfagnana Innovazione have collaborated for the ninth time to bring artists, designers and architects to Garfagnana, giving them the opportunity to work with new technologies and the famous Tuscan marble. The “Techno_lithic” exhibition is the result of an intense stay during which each artist created a marble sculpture, first rough-hewn with a 7-axis robot, and then finished by hand. This is a unique collaboration between artists, engineers and the advanced technologies of Garfagnana Innovazione. Together they integrated ancient methods of sculpture and work with the modern use of digital. These new expression strategies are integrated with rich formal approaches and theoretical constructs.

PIETRA ETERNA: The Exhibition

These artists have reused software and machinery designed for the aerospace and automotive industries to make art. They collaborated with Engineer Gabriel Ferri to create the computational data that allows the robotic arm to work. In addition to the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Machinery (CAM), the artists directly used models, scans, VR and animation software to create the sculptures. The works are experimental, exploratory and have a strong visual impact.

The exhibition will remain open every day until the end of July, at the Arringo del Duomo in Barga
